Shoulder Pain
The shoulder is one of the most commonly injured or strained areas of the human body. From the moment we wake, till we go to bed, this joint is used frequently. As we age, our bodies become less able to repair and lubricate joints, which makes injury and pain common ailments.
Tips For Immediate Relief
If pain seems mild at first, it may be possible to treat it at home. Doing this will require a few different approaches depending upon the type of injury. Rest should be a priority, and can have amazing results. By preventing the shoulder area to move or do strenuous work, the tissue will have the time and ability to repair damaged cells. This could take a day or two. Ice and heating pads can also be great at reducing swelling, along with reducing the overall pain. Be sure to lay in a comfortable position that doesn't require the shoulder area to be under any further strain.
If Pain Persists
When severe or even moderate pain continue for an extended period of time it is necessary to seek further treatment. Chances are it is a sign that more damage has been caused than can be healed under normal circumstances. Luckily, physicians have many options available when it comes to healing the shoulder area, along with mitigating pain that can be uncomfortable. Narcotic or even over the counter medication may be prescribed for pain, along with a suggestion to either not move the area, or do exercises that may be able to add strength.
What Can You Do?
Being healthy and exercising are great ways to prevent further problems. Our joints become, and stay strong when they are used. Remember that exercise must be done properly for result to be positive and not cause further injury. For medium pain it may be viable to just rest, but when pain persist for extended periods of time it is imperative that a person seek further treatment, which can eliminate the possibility of further damage occurring.
